I originally started the production as co-Supervisor with Neil Corbould, taking the project through the full pre-production period and overseeing the development, design and testing of the practical effects before principal photography began.
By the time we were ready to shoot, the effects package was in good shape and running smoothly. At that point Neil moved me onto World War Z, which had just entered pre-production and was facing a number of significant challenges that needed to be brought under control.
A lot of the work we developed for Wrath of the Titans involved large-scale mechanical and breakaway effects. We created smashing and crashing timber elements for the sequence where the giant chases Perseus through the woods, as well as substantial moving stone-wall set pieces.
The tests below show some of that development work, including breakaway columns designed for cast and stunt performers to land on and impact safely, together with an exploding-rock concept using compressed air to produce a powerful, controllable practical effect.
Although I left the production just before shooting began, the pre-production, engineering and testing of these sequences represented a substantial part of my involvement before moving across to take on World War Z.
