Another outing with Ken, once again both directing and acting alongside an exceptional ensemble cast.

Murder on the Orient Express was a substantial undertaking for the Special Effects department. One of the centrepieces was the construction of a full-size mock steam locomotive, complete with a fully dressed engine area. The locomotive was engineered to travel up and down the track, with a movement system designed to replicate the weight and motion of the real thing on camera. For the exterior set, we took things even further, mounting the locomotive on a 24-foot-high set with drop gimbal, re-creating the crash sequence.The workshop team did an outstanding job bringing it all together, with Jim Machin at the helm.

We also created extensive snow and ice environments across both the interiors and the Longcross Studios backlot, transforming the sets into the frozen landscape required for the film. This was achieved with support from Snow Business, with the snow operation coordinated by Oliver Guy-Watkins — no relation!

A huge practical-effects job, combining large-scale engineering, mechanical effects, atmospheric work and extensive winter dressing.
