Clash of the Titans was a large-scale mythological adventure directed by Louis Leterrier, and for this one I was supervising the floor effects.

The production took us to some spectacular locations, particularly Mount Teide in Tenerife. It genuinely felt otherworldly up there — volcanic rock, huge open landscapes and scenery that already looked as though it belonged in a fantasy film. There are moments in this job when you have to remind yourself that you’re actually being paid to work somewhere like that.

Then came the complete contrast of Wales — equally beautiful in its own way, but considerably wetter.

The work itself involved the usual mixture of large practical setups, atmospherics, mechanical effects and action work around the cast and stunt teams, all on a production operating at considerable scale.

What stays with me most, though, is the contrast between those locations: the extraordinary volcanic landscape of Tenerife and the green, wet Welsh countryside. Two completely different environments, both perfect for the world the film was trying to create.
